Box office update: Ranbir Kapoor’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil BEATS Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay in the overseas market by a HUGE margin

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Vs Shivaay

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Vs Shivaay

Ajay Devgn is definitely not gonna like the kind of response his film Shivaay has earned in the overseas market, as opposed to it’s competition, Karan Johar‘s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Both the films have released on 28th October, which is also coinciding with the Diwali weekend. Therefore the possibilities of the films to earn big bucks at the box office is tremendously high. The box office earnings of Shivaay and ADHM are out and have earned Rs. 10.24 crs and rs. 13.30 crs respectively. Well, if the Ranbir Kapoor–Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer has earned so much in the domestic market, wait till you hear how much it has harboured in the overseas market. Bollywood Hungama has shared all the earnings of both, Ae Dil and Shivaay and we are literally left stumped. We’ve calculated the difference and it’s a whopping Rs. 2.11 crs! Yes. That’s the margin by which ADHM has won the overseas market.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil –
Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anushka Sharma, Fawad Khan surely have got the international audience captivated by their release, ADHM! Reports of box office collection from Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand have come in and KJo’s love saga has dominated them all. The United Kingdom collections are Rs. 1.03 crs from 82 screens! Their New Zealand collections are Rs. 22 Lakhs from 21 screens. In Australia, the film opened with a collection of Rs. 79,00,000 from 33 screens. Canada collection stands at Rs. 36,00,000 from 9 screens. Overall overseas collection of the film totals to Rs. 2.40 crs! Wow. I’m outta words.

Shivaay –
Ajay Devgn, Erika Kaar, Sayyesha Segal, Abigail Eames’ starrer might not have attracted a large audience internationally. The film opened at a lesser number of screens internationally which affected their box office collections from the countries as well. Despite Hollywood level action sequences, the film managed to only rake in a total collection of Rs. 28.36 Lakhs. We’ll give you the division. From UK, the collection earned stands at Rs. 4.46 Lakhs from 32 screens. The New Zealand collection adds up to Rs. 3.96 Lakhs from 11 screens. Even the Australian opening isn’t that striking as they only raked in Rs. 13 Lakhs from 24 screens. The total isn’t very impressive but if you see the number of screens both the films have gained, it is without a doubt that ADHM will stand out considering the high number of screens it received.

In the domestic market the competition continues as we wait to see what Saturday’s collection would be. We’ll find the out tomorrow. Stay tuned to this space as we bring updates on Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay’s box office updates.

Shivaay movie review: Ajay Devgn’s directorial is all about its stunning visuals and breath taking action scenes

The wait is finally over and one of the most awaited movie of this year has finally hit the screens. Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay grabbed the headlines for a couple of reasons. Firstly since the actor was directing his dream project himself and secondly for it’s breathtaking visuals and high octane action sequences. We knew action was always his forte but with Shivaay he has taken this notch a bit higher. While a lot has been predicted about the movie’s plot, it’s core stays the bond between father- daughter relationship. So how’s the movie? Will it prove a tough competitor for Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil? Read on to find out…

What’s it about
Ajay Devgn’s directorial return Shivaay is the story of a man trying to right many wrongs. Set against the backdrop of the icy mountains, Shivaay (Ajay) is living what seems like an ordinary life – helping the army in lost and found missions, trekking with tourists and flirting with foreign belles, one in particular – Olga (Erika Kaar). Shivaay and Olga’s love story happens so quickly that before you start digging into your popcorn they have a child – a daughter named Gaura (Abigail) who might be a mute but her expressions and over enthusiastic antics compensate for her lack of speech. Shivaay’s world turns upside down when Gaura discovers a letter left by Olga describing how she abandoned her daughter after birth. Their journey to find Olga takes the father- daughter duo to the scenic locales of Bulgaria where most of the film takes place. Ajay throws in a child trafficking subplot that serves as a catalyst to play out one of the longest drawn climaxes of 2016. There is no villain, rather there are masked men who Shivaay has to fight to reach to the one who is responsible for his daughters kidnapping. Shot on a lavish scale with high octane stunt scenes Shivaay works because of its emotional connect with the audience. .

What’s hot
Ajay Devgn fans won’t be disappointed. You have a bare chested Ajay lying bareback on the snow capped mountains opens the film,  making it clear that there will be a lot of Ajay Devgn in every frame. And it isn’t really a bad thing. For someone whose forte is action, Devgn has come a long way from making an entry standing with his two feet on moving bikes to thrusting deadly icicles in his villains torso. Aseem Bajaj who helms the cinematography departments makes sure the film looks big and every frame even when there are no mountains is full of drama and colour. Ajay’s take on the father-daughter relationship works because he manages to cast the right child actor to play his daughter. Abigail who plays Gaura is not only a natural but also immensely likeable without being annoying. Her scenes with Ajay are some of the best moments of the film. Among the action scenes the ones that’s stand out is the big car chase sequence in the first half and the climax where the icy terrain provides the right landscape for building some intense fight scenes. Vir Das provides the much needed comic relief and is a delight to watch. Erika is earnest but her accent seems forced and weak. The title track is super catchy and used at the right moments throughout the film.

What’s not
As an actor you can’t really help it if your director treats every scene like it’s an extended showreel. But hold on! Ajay directs and acts in Shivaay and that perhaps is the biggest flaw of the film. There are moments when you can see him struggle in a scene only because he’s wondering if the people around him are getting it right. There is that feeling of filing in and compensating for the rest of the crew.  But a man can only do that much, and had Ajay decided to just act and blow us away  with his action and emotional moments , Shivaay would be a different experience. The lengthy scenes and the second half that endlessly drags its feet are a true test of your patience. Shivaay could have easily been a shorter film with a more gripping narrative had the editing been a bit more stricter.

What to do:

Shivaay has  spectacular action scenes, perhaps the best we have seen this year. Watch it for that and the emotional storyline of a father-daughter relationship.

Rating:3 out of 5

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil movie review: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan steals the thunder from Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma

Ae dil hai mushkil

Ae dil hai mushkil

Karan Johar’s Diwali offering Ae Dil Hai Mushkil featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has finally hit theatres along with Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay. Is the movie worth your time this Diwali? Read our review to find out!

What’s it about:

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is a film about love and it’s many shades. There is a track of unrequited love, one that’s a purely platonic, another that deals with the physical attraction, but more or less the film is about companionship and realising that one side love can also be fulfilling. Ranbir Kapoor plays Ayan an aspiring singer whose chance meeting with Alizeh played by Anushka Sharma results in the two experiencing and realising emotions their never felt before. Ayan and Alizeh start off as friends, both coming off breakups, one a serious relationship while the other a casual affair. Despite the length of it both Alizeh and Ayan experience heart break and process it differently. The storyline gets a dramatic twist when Ayan’s love for Alizeh isn’t reciprocated as per his expectation. Fawad Khan plays her ex boyfriend Ali who begs her to give their relationship another chance resulting in marriage. A heart broken Ayan finds love or rather lust the second time around in the arms of a poet Sabah played by the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Things get seriously complicated in the second half when Alizeh is diagnosed with cancer. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is complex and long. It is also indulgent yet relatable to situations we all have been through.

What’s hot:

Karan Johar’s forte is using popular culture to narrate a story with an universal appeal. His take on love and relationships is deep and flakey at the same time. The first half is light and the banter between Ranbir and Anushka extremely engaging. Props to the writers for using words and language that is not only current but also entertaining. References to other films, namely the ones from the 80s and KAran’s own are a major highlight. Like every other Karan Johar film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is glossy and extremely good looking. Performances are a major highlight with Ranbir being the stand out act. He owns Ayan like he’s felt every emotion being played out. It’s not just the heavy duty long monologues where he shines but even the small subtle reaction scenes to his co-actors make his performance that much more endearing. Fawad Khan manages to make a striking presence felt with his good looks and charm, only if he had a longer role. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan looks like she’s sashayed out of a beauty pageant and her moments with Ranbir have intense sensuality and passion. Lisa Haydon’s cameo is funny and the ‘vaatavaran’ line will soon become a catch phrase.

What’s not:

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’s biggest flaw is the lack of chemistry between its lead pair. For a film whose protagonist experiences love and loss multiple times with different people the execution of the narrative gets lost in translation. Ayan and Alizeh start off as friends only to get caught in a web of mutually unresolved feelings. When we revisit them in the second half their track is still stuck on an endless loop. Dialogues are too heavy and sound off when used in every day conversation. Sabah being a poet can speak in that dialect but when Alizeh and Ayan start their banter it just gets repetitive. Shah Rukh’s much hyped cameo fizzles out before you take that collective sigh. The plot goes downhill once Alizeh’s terminal illness track sets in. The scenes gets heavy and that cloud of ‘been there seen that’ looms till the very end.

What to do:

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has some really nice moments, but they are few and suffer the curse of a weak second half. Nevertheless watch it for Ranbir and Karan’s interpretation of love, loss and longing.

Rating:2.5 out of 5

This Bollywood Actress’ Husband Forced The Producer To Chop Off Sex Scenes In The Film

Sunny Leone in Beiimaan Love

Sunny Leone in Beiimaan Love

Beiimaan Love‘s producer Rajeev Chaudhari recounted his experience of working with Sunny Leone and apparently, it wasn’t a very good one. Speaking to BollywoodLife, he said:

I had to cut off two bedroom scenes because Daniel said she wouldn’t shoot them, though they were to be were aesthetically shot. They wanted to do the bedroom scene in the kitchen! Post Mastizaade, they had decided that the skin show is over. After the film, they became very strict and Daniel would send me emails specifying what she wouldn’t do. I am not a big corporate house. As an individual producer, I could not fight. Where would I go to fight in court? So I bowed to their wishes and completed the film. Though the bedroom scenes involved some lovemaking, they didn’t have much exposure. They got upset so we had to chop off those scenes which would have brought me money from the single screen theatres. I really slogged hard on this film but these people didn’t cooperate.”

7 Ae Dil Hai Mushkil controversies that SHOCKED the internet

Aishwarya Rai and Ranbir Kapoor in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

Aishwarya Rai and Ranbir Kapoor in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil might be one of the most awaited films of this year but its journey definitely hasn’t been that easy. Whether it was the sudden ban on Pakistani artists following the Uri attacks or the MNS protests against retaining Fawad Khan’s scenes in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Karan Johar was literally made to apologise and beg for his film’s release. I mean, the way how protests were heating up with every passing day, we almost thought Ae Dil Hai Mushkil will either get postponed or will never see the light of the day. But fortunately things settled right before the release and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil as per scheduled, is all set to release tomorrow. Here’s looking back at 7 other controversies surrounding Ae Dil Hai Mushkil- a film which also stars Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma in prominent roles. Read on…

The Bachchans vs Aishwarya

Before the Indo-Pak clash, it was the fuss surrounding Aishwarya’s hot love making scenes with Ranbir Kapoor in the film that had shocked the internet. The trailer and the songs came as a perfect tease proving there’s going to be some helluva passionate love between Ranbir and Aishwarya in the film. But this in return got the industry talking as to how did Bachchans allow Aishwarya to go so bold onscreen? Yes! While some reports suggested that Abhishek and Amitabh Bachchan are pretty upset with Ash for going way beyond her inhibitions. Many even speculated if Ash has fallen out with the Bachchans. But soon came a clarification that neither Bachchans nor Aishwarya had any clashes over the bold scenes in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. In fact, Abhishek and Amitabh support her role for she’s only representing a character with so much conviction. Ahem, so be it then!

The KRK effect

Now we all knew for a fact that Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is clashing with Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay at the box office and the competition was bound to get aggressive. But little did anyone expect Kamaal R Khan would step in to create unimaginable trouble between Karan and Ajay over ugly politics. It all started after Ajay leaked an audio tape of Kamaal R Khan spilling the beans to one of his associates that Karan bribed him Rs 25 lakh to sabotage Shivaay. While usually such cheap tricks don’t get any much importance. Ajay instead took it way too seriously and actually doubted Karan for dropping his standards so low. In fact, Karan’s lucky charm Kajol too decided to go with Ajay over the same lines and gave up on Karan, once and for all. Sadly, the result of which is now here for you to see today – Kajol for the first time is NOT playing a cameo in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Ajay for all that you know is going on records taking constant digs at Karan. What destiny holds for this broken relationship? Only time will tell…

Pakistan artistes ban

Now the Uri attacks was unfortunate and India’s decision to cut ties with Pakistan is totally justified. But blame it on its fate, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil became the instant target to face the ire of this ban for it’s the first film to release with a Pakistani actor- Fawad Khan. While Karan Johar helplessly pleaded to be spared for once. This ban also got the industry divided with an outburst like never before. Why ban artists? Artists are not terrorists? Argued Salman Khan and many others who believed ban on Pakistani artistes is not the solution. But the Indian government and IMPAA made sure they keep India as their only priority and passed the judgement that films which have been already shot with Pakistani actors can release but henceforth, there’ll be no collaboration with Pakistan in future. Phew! But the moment we thought Ae Dil has been spared, here came the villains of this scenario – The MNS!

Fawad Go Back!

Despite the government and IMPAA coming into mutual agreement that the films which have been already shot with Pakistani actors can release, MNS cheif Raj Thackeray saw no reason why Ae Dil Hai Mushkil should be spared. His fight against Karan Johar continued where he threatened that there’ll be protests against Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, if at all it hits the screens. In fact, MNS is the one who also gave a 48hours ultimatum to Fawad Khan and all the other Pakistani actors to leave India or they will have to face major consequences. Karan’s worry eventually went from bad to worse..

Exhibitors Boycott over Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

Fearing the MNS protests, the cinema exhibitors association then decided that they too won’t run the film in single screens at cities including Mumbai, Pune. The decision came in reaction to the protests. What if MNS party burns down the theatre? What if they cause damage to our cinema halls? Argued one of the exhibitor stating they stand by the MNS decision and won’t screen Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

The ‘Final’ Rs 5 crore settlement

Finally, Karan Johar was left with no choice but to abide by the MNS demands. Not that he agreed to replace Fawad Khan in the film but in a crucial meeting with Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, MNS chief Raj Thackeray and Producers guild head Mukesh Bhatt, Karan pledged that he will never collaborate with any Pakistani artists in future. He even agreed to donate Rs 5 crore to the Indian Army Welfare Foundation, as demanded by Fadnavis. In fact, if that’s not all Karan has also agreed to run a few minutes visual paying his obituary to the late martyrs of our country who lost their lives in the Uri attacks. Following which, Raj Thackeray then agreed to withdraw his protests against Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and has allowed a stress free release, only on these above conditions. Phew!

Censor Certificate Leaked!

As if the political issues were any less, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’s Censor Board certificate too got leaked on the internet a few days back. Although it has received an U/A certificate but unlike reports that suggested the film was passed with barely any cuts, the certificate showed a total of as many as 5 cuts with a major 50 percent cut on Anushka’s smooching scenes.

All said and done, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has successfully overcome all these above hurdles and is FINALLY releasing tomorrow. One last time, let’s hear it for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil!!! How excited are you???

Shivaay quick movie review: Ajay Devgn’s film is a breathtaking ride in the first half

The wait is finally over. Ajay Devgn’s action adventure, Shivaay is finally out. The movie not only stars Ajay but has also been directed and produced by him. Clearly a lot is on stake with this film. Erika Kaar, and Sayyeshaa play key roles in the film and Abigail Eames plays Ajay’s daughter. From the trailer it was evident that film will be an out and out action film, with an emotional family drama being pivotal to the plot. The music of the film also has been well received, especially the song Raatein. Mithoon has done a commendable job with Bolo Har Har Har, which has been rocking the music charts since the release. Exquisite shots of mountains promised a beautiful looking film. Also,  fans were thrilled to see never-before-action sequences in the trailer. But is the film worth all the hype? Bollywoodlife’s movie critic Gaurang Chauhan is in a theater watching the film, and the first half of the film just got over. Here’s the movie review of the first half of Shivaay…

“The film starts off with that stunning visual of Ajay Devgn lying shirtless and that’s how we are introduced to Shivaay. In fact the full entry scene is breathtaking with title track playing in the background. Soon enough Erika (Olga) is introduced and the film starts to grow on you. Their romance is heartfelt and Shivaay’s love for this beauty is perfectly depicted by Ajay. But Olga (Erika) leaves after giving birth to her child Gaura (Abigail). The focus then shifts to their daughter Gaura. The father-daughter moments between Shivaay and Gaura are simply adorable. Gaura can’t speak. She finds out about her mother and forces Shivaay to let her meet her mother. They travel to Bulgaria, to find Olga. That’s when something catastrophic happens and the plot gets even more thrilling.”

Hoping for the second half to be as breathtaking and thrilling as the pre interval portion was.”

This Bollywood Couple Has Reportedly Broken Up

Kalki Koechlin, Jim Sarbh

Kalki Koechlin, Jim Sarbh

Earlier this year there were rumours of Kalki Koechlin dating popular theatre personality Jim Sarbh. The latter came to the limelight after he played the role of the terrorist Khalil in Neerja. Reportedly, the two even moved in together but always denied their relationship status to the media.

As per recent reports, all is not well in paradise anymore as the two ignored each other at a film festival recently. A popular leading daily quoted a source, saying:

The two ignored each other like the plague at the premiere of A Death in the Gunj at the Mumbai Film Festival. Jim was busy addressing the press, while Kalki was posing for the shutterbugs. However, the two walked away from each other on the red carpet, despite having seen the other.”

Is it splitsville for yet another couple in 2016?
