Alia Bhatt: Audience will see me in a completely different avatar in Raazi

Actress Alia Bhatt, who is playing the main lead in Meghna Gulzar’s “Raazi”, says the audience will see her in a completely different avatar in the film.”I think in ‘Raazi’ audience will see me in completely different avatar at least that is my wish because ‘Raazi’ as a film is very different. Its the first time I am doing a period film and it is based on true story as well, so I am very excited for it and I hope audience will like it,” said Alia on the sidelines of the second edition of Lokmat Maharashtra’s Most Stylish Awards in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt had come together to recreate the magic of Romeo and Juliet at the awards night to spread the message of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan – Don’t waste your love on somebody, who doesn’t value #SwachhIndia.’ The short clip which is a part of the clean India initiative has been released by the actors on Twitter and hopes to drive home an important point – “If we don’t litter abroad then why do we litter in India”.

Talking about the initiative, Alia said, “Who doesn’t want a clean India. Definitely, it’s a very important campaign and we added some humour to it so that people can also get entertained but the point is ‘Badlega scene Jab India hoga clean”.

When asked whether she likes to be stylish, Alia said, “Obviously..I really like to stay stylish. I think it has become necessary to be stylish.”Alia’s next film “Raazi” is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s “Calling Sehmat”, a novel inspired by the almost-unbelievable real-life story of a woman who Sikka named Sehmat, to protect her identity.

Alia is playing Sehmat, a Kashmiri woman who marries a Pakistani officer with the intention to source out intelligence details and pass them to Indian forces. Vicky Kaushal is essaying the role of the Pakistani officer.”Raazi” is being directed by Meghna Gulzar and produced by Karan Johar and Vineet Jain. It is scheduled to release on May 11 ,2018.

Here’s how Alia Bhatt made her journey from SHY to SASSY in just 5 years – View pics

Of all the millennials in tinsel town, we are besotted with the one who has been carving a glorious niche with a slew of unconventional roles, the sartorial stylista – Alia Bhatt! Proving her mettle as an exceptional actress and ranking amongst the best industry performers, Alia Bhatt made a dazzling debut in mentor Karan Johar’s romantic caper, Student Of The Year in 2012. From being a cherubic-faced 19-year old to an uber-chic 24-year old reigning millennial, Alia Bhatt has indeed traversed a long way. While she shut the naysayers with her acting prowess in the 2014 flick, Highway, it was also the year when Alia tapped the cool girl vibe with a refreshing take on some of the hottest trends in vogue at that time, startling the world with a remarkable transformation. In 2016, Alia Bhatt rendered everyone speechless by belting out stellar performances in Kapoor & Sons, Udta Punjab and Dear Zindagi, sweeping all the accolades and awards. As exuberant and brilliant her on-screen presence is, her off-screen avatars, too, are quite sought-after, for the sartorial influence on the millennial generation, with Vogue aptly tagging it as The Age of Alia. It’s certainly not surprising that AliaBhatt sets things alight with her mood, attitude and spunk.

Alia Bhatt is all of 24 but is giving her contemporaries a serious run for their money and has gained an appreciable penchant to pull off wow-worthy looks and reinforce our faith that she certainly belongs to the niche breed of tinsel town millennials who have cracked the style code of blending comfort with equal parts of chic and glamour. Whether it’s chic airport style or a brunch date with her girlies, there is a chapter for every vibe in Alia’s cool Book of Style. However, just like every style story that’s a success, Alia, too, had endured a fair share of brickbats and jeers from the fashion police before becoming a style darling! Here’s the style recap of Alia Bhatt’s wondrous journey from a bumbling teenager to a ravishing fashionista.

2012 – A sensational debut but trying too hard to impress

As the perfect chubby and cute girl-next-door, Alia Bhatt graduated as the Student of the Year in 2012 alongside Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra. Being a star kid, she had all eyes hooked on to her shenanigans and Alia tried hard to woo us by dabbling in body hugging numbers, flowy silhouettes and prom dresses coupled with bright heels and an unflattering beauty game.

At the unveiling of SOTY, Alia looked a tad uncomfortable in a short white dress with an unappealing plunge and chunky heels.

PCJ Delhi Couture Week 2012, Alia chose an embellished princess style fit-and-flare pink prom dress and metallic strappy heels.

Promoting her flick in the city, Alia donned a black tank with red peplum skirt and red stilettos.

2013 – Improved but yet to make a mark

By 2013, Alia Bhatt had ditched the gaudy body hugging numbers for some trendy ones and stepped on the red carpet of major award shows with a somewhat improved sense of style. While the likeness of these ensembles is debatable, here are some of the looks that made the mark.

Wearing an off-shoulder little black dress for a salon launch, Alia teamed it with pointed heels in pink with minimal make- up and her hair let down.

At the launch of Forever 21 store in the city, Alia chose a white floral lace dress with a Peter Pan collar and faux pearl buttons rounding up the look with a neck chain, a black bib necklace, a faux leather belt and wedge booties.

At the Screen Awards 2013, Alia chose a one-shouldered Gaurav Gupta body-hugging dress and upped the tacky quotient with chunky black stilettos and a bad hairstyle.

For the unveiling of Harper’s Bazaar Fashion Magazine in the city, Alia was snapped in a floral bralet with a flared black skirt and a pink blazer. Her fascination for OTT heels and bad hairstyle continued.

At the Filmfare Awards 2013 Nominations bash, Alia flaunted her back in a light pink gown by Sonaakshi Raaj but failed at wooing everyone!

2014 – Early tidings of being chic and edgy

With the release of Highway, 2 States and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania on the anvil, Alia Bhatt unleashed her A-game in 2014, leaving everyone to gape in amazement. Discovering her style niche to be non-fussy and uber-comfortable, AliaBhatt shed those days of shoddy dressing and emerged as the millennial to watch out for.

Ditching the conventional red carpet dress code, Alia made heads turn by flaunting a svelte avatar in an Osman Spring 2014 black jumpsuit and kept the simple vibe going with sleek hair and gold strappy heels.

Teaming her Zara shorts with a bowler hat and a black crop top for the promotions of Samjhaawaan, Alia rocked the edgy-meets-cute look to the hilt.

Looking nothing less than ravishing for Karan Johar’s birthday bash, Alia chose a crop top and leather midi skirt from Zara.

2015 – Minimal Style Vibe

By 2015, Alia had gained a stronghold in the industry and developed a niche for the minimal style vibe by merging trends with comfort and looking nothing less than splendid every time she stepped out.

For the promotions of Shandaar, Alia was snapped wearing a red dress by A.W.A.K.E with a metallic dragonfly brooch and upped the look with a halo braid and white sneakers.

Looking chic and fun in a Topshop dress and ASOS brogues, Alia looked pretty.

Wearing the wishes of her fans on her dress, Alia sported a sweetheart-neckline doodle dress, customised by Ami Patel.

Romping about in style, Alia wore an olive Karren Miller romper with Steve Madden sandals.

2016 – The Style Diva

Giving everyone regular dose of style inspiration, Alia Bhatt’s official Instagram handle became a rage as the diva chronicled her style shenanigans in tandem with her stylists, Ami Patel and Sanjay Kumar Dauhaliya.

Reigning in a sleek look with separates from Ulyana Sergeenko for the launch of Twinkle Khanna’s book, Alia looked refreshing in blue and white separates paired with strappy sandals.

Alia looked saucy in a black one-shouldered tuxedo inspired playsuit and teamed it well with strappy black sandals.

Rarely the one to step out in traditional attire, Alia stunned us all by flaunting some serious bling and shimmer in a customised Manish Malhotra saree with a cold-shoulder cut blouse and upped the glamour quotient with dramatic smoky eyes and a neat bun with a middle parting.

2017 – Sartorial Bliss

There is certainly no stopping Alia Bhatt as she serenades our style senses with her refined, sartorial and glamorous fashion moments. This year too, she slayed the red carpet with an infectious candour, with all her looks being a big hit with the fashion conscious masses and critics alike.

Speaking of casual style, Alia was snapped on a lunch date with beau Sidharth Malhotra wearing a star printed T-shirt dress with ‘Let’s Get Lost’ written across the front, and teamed it with white sneakers and a black tote.

At the HT Most Stylish Awards 2017, Alia chose an unconventional red carpet ensemble of a white short dress with a long trail on one side from Reem Acra and bagged the HT Most Stylish Jury’s Choice Award for 2017, rounding up the look with a sleek middle-parted low back pony and minimal makeup.

At the success bash of Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Alia was snapped wearing separates comprising a dark olive-colored velvet cami top and tucking it in ankle-dusting fitted jacquard pants and golden chunky stilettos. Flaunting a minimal makeup of slightly dark eyes and her hair styled in easy waves, Alia Bhatt looked radiant.

While her on-screen roles have undergone a remarkable transformation, her off-screen style sense has also undergone an impressive metamorphosis. With her refreshing persona, Alia’s sheer presence can make a statement and engage us consciously with her distinct, fluent and chic style game, she certainly keeps us guessing on her next style move!

Fans speak: Alia Bhatt beats Kangana Ranaut to be the Best Actress of 2017’s first quarter

Kangana Ranaut, Alia Bhatt

Kangana Ranaut, Alia Bhatt

As the first quarter of 2017 ended, we ran a series of polls about what we felt were the Best performance of the period, both male and female, best movie and best song. As for the Best Actress poll, we, unfortunately, had very limited choices of strong performances when compared to their male counterparts. But the five choices that we got for this category were really tough ones. So here they were – Alia Bhatt as the spunky small town girl with big ambitions in Badrinath Ki Dulhania. Kangana Ranaut was chosen for her brilliant performance as Miss Julia in the period drama, Rangoon. Swara Bhaskar’s feisty act as the nautch girl with high morals in Anarkali of Aaraah deservingly got a spot in our list. Taapsee Pannu was one of the finest things in a sadly disappointing Naam Shabana, while Anushka Sharma’s spooky act in Phillauri was also great enough.

However, there can only be one winner and that one winner happens to be Alia Bhatt for her performance in Shashank Khaitan’s social romcom. She easily defeated her competitors by getting 50% of the votes, and shows how popular she is among our readers.

In the second position is Kangana Ranaut in Rangoon, a performance everyone liked in a movie that a very few liked. Kangana gets 37% of the votes. Interestingly, she was leading the poll when we were tracking it at the beginning, before Alia Bhatt surged ahead. Taapsee Pannu, Anushka Sharma and Swara Bhaskar made for the third, fourth and fifth positions respectively. Here are the poll results.

In the Best Actor poll, it was Hrithik Roshan who won the same for his performance in Raees beating Shah Rukh Khan in Raees. Well, congrats to all the winners!

Alia Bhatt Opens Up On Her Marriage Plans

Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt has an enviable career graph. She began working at the ripe age of 18 and has since then delivered a string of hits, making her one of the most bankable stars we have today. Her recent film Badrinath Ki Dulhania had her play a bride-to-be and spoke about the topic of marriages in India. In a recent interview with India Today, she was asked about what her plans for marriage are, to which she said,

I do want to settle down early  because I have an advantage of having started off (my career) very early. That way, I can get done with it and continue. Also, I don’t want to settle down too late in life because that also has its own issues. But honestly, I’m not thinking about it or planning as of now.”

When asked about the notion that actress’ have a shelf life, she added,

Earlier, we used to say that an actresses’ shelf life lasts only until she gets married. But I don’t think that’s true anymore. That has completely changed, especially with the way Bebo has gone about her marriage and even her pregnancy. Even after getting married, she did really well in a few tough films. And now, although she delivered a baby a few months back, she is readying to get back to shooting. I think that’s the way it should be for an actor. You shouldn’t stop acting just because you settle down, and I also don’t plan to go that way.”

There you have it straight from the horse’s mouth!

Is Alia Bhatt Taking A Break From Acting?

Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt, who made her debut with Student Of The Year, was only 18 when she shot for the film. Since then, the actress has been working non stop for the last five years and has churned out one hit after the other. It’s a great phase for her career right now, with her latest Badrinath Ki Dulhania already being declared a hit. But Alia has other plans. She wants to take a six month break from acting. Here’s what she told DNA about her new decision.

My next, Ayan Mukerji’s Dragon starts in September. Until then I am going to be bettering my craft, learning new skills, imbibing untried experiences. I want to learn to play the piano. I want to learn Kathak too.”

On why she wants to stop now that she’s at all all-time career high…

I want to be more equipped as an actor. I realise acting is not just about what you do when you’re facing the camera. There’s a lot more thought that goes into it. I am trying to gather as many experiences as possible.”

PS – She’s also going to spend time learning to cook.

I have a new home and I’m house-proud. And I love to entertain guests. However, whenever guests drop in I feel inadequate because I am unable to cook for them. Not just that. I want to cook for myself also. I feel it is an essential part of my progress towards a complete life.”

How sweet! After this successful five year run that she’s had, we sure think she deserves a break. :

Rs 580 crore! That’s how much birthday girl Alia Bhatt’s movies have made so far!

Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt

From Student Of The Year to Badrinath Ki Dulhania, birthday girl Alia Bhatt has come a long way in her career. Alia has always looked good, but over the few years that she has been in the industry, she has also proved her mettle as an actress. During her five years in Bollywood, she has evolved as a person too. In fact, in just nine films, she has established herself as a top draw at the ticket windows and raked in a total of Rs 580 crore at the box office!

For those of you who are not in the know, in an interview with Niranjan Iyer, after Student Of The Year, Alia had revealed, “I heard such harsh comments. Filmmakers had written me off as a silly girl. Some said I should never try my luck at the movies. I felt miserable and unwanted. For a week, I shunned all outdoor activities as I didn’t want people to spot me and make fun.” But we are sure those filmmakers would now be taking their words back, as this ‘silly girl’ has made it big in Bollywood. Through just nine films, Alia has amassed Rs 580 crore at the box office, which is HUGE! If you see the collections of all her films till date, from Student Of The Year to Badrinath Ki Dulhania, you will realise that she has earned really big bucks. Check out the detailed breakdown here:

But this is just the beginning. Alia has just turned 24 and has her best years ahead of her. Her career is currently booming and she is also making smart choices. With that, Alia Bhatt is well on her way to be a superstar and it won’t be a surprise if she hits the Rs 1000 crore mark soon!

Our trade expert Akshaye Rathi also agrees and says, “There are two aspects to analyse in Alia Bhatt‘s career – one is her box office standing in terms of the films she has been a part of and the way they have performed; and second is the perception that she has created through her films, her PR, brands, over the years. And one thing that virtually no one can deny, and the thing that is extremely critical for an actor to be a star, is likeability. And Alia Bhatt has that in abundance. She has an image that works for people; she has an image that people like.”

He further continues, “Then comes the box office. If you look at the kind of films that she has done, you will realise what I am saying. While she has done a Highway, she has again been smart with her next choice of film in terms of the potential that it will have at the box office. For stars, who are just four or five or six years into the industry, it is too early to get experimental with the kind of cinema that let’s say an Aamir Khan can do. And these superstars can afford to do that because, over the last 20 years, they have done commercial, entertaining films to generate a fan following. So people who are just a few years into the industry and haven’t had 20-30 films, can’t afford to get experimental with cinema. But still, Alia’s been very smart. Either she has done an absolutely commercial film or she has got the star power to make an experimental film commercially viable. With all these things working for her, she has a phenomenal career ahead and she will be a true, blue superstar.”

With such positive words, we wish Alia Bhatt a very Happy Birthday and wish her all the luck with her career…

Badrinath Ki Dulhania: Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt’s crackling chemistry makes the film watchable

Badrinath Ki Dulhania

Badrinath Ki Dulhania

Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan have won fans with their last few outings on the silver screen. This is in fact becoming one of the most loved on screen couples of Bollywood. The last two times Alia-Varun came together they delivered a hit. No wonder the young stars have fan clubs named “Varia”and “Valia”. Now you’d want to know how this duo has fared in their latest Dharma Productions venture Badrinath Ki Dulhania directed by Shashank Khaitan. Do the Humpty Sharma trio recreate the magic this time around? Well read our Badrinath Ki Dulhania movie review to find out…

#What’s it about

The film revolves around the lives of a rich yet not spoilt brat, Badrinath Bhansal aka Badri (Varun Dhawan) from Jhansi and an ambitious young girl Vaidehi Trivedi (Alia Bhatt) from Kota. While Badri’s only motive in life is to get hitched to Vaidehi with whom he fell in love while dancing at a wedding, Vaidehi has bigger ambitions in life and battles to fight. The duo has different plans in life, except that Badri will not take a no for an answer and wants to desperately win over Vaidehi. He’s unable to understand how this young girl can resist such a perfect guy, whose only credential is that he belongs to a rich family. Badri is a tenth grade pass who hasn’t even attended college and has no regrets admitting that he works for his dad as a loan money recovery guy. Vaidehi on the other hand is literally aiming for the skies. The rest of the story you will get a sneak peek at just looking at the theatricals.

#What’s hot

VARUN DHAWAN! Yes, Varun as Badri will remind you of the best of both Salman Khan and Govinda. He has the star power of Salman, a great body like the Dabangg hero and looks super hot in this film. His comic timing and emotional scenes will really make you believe that he’s indeed the true successor of Govinda. Varun lends himself so well to the comedy-drama genre. Varun steals the show from every other character in the film and trust me there are quite a few who stand out. There are a few scenes in particular where he’s super entertaining and endearing. Like for example, when he tries to woo Alia and realises that he’s indeed not a match for her and breaks down before his friend Somdev (Sahil Vaid) or then the scene where he sees his lady love go far away from him and achieve success he’s both proud and emotional. He’s hero who isn’t the macho who will just beat up the baddies and take a punch for his ladylove. He is the lover who doesn’t mind sharing responsibilities and taking on the kitchen and laundry duties, while celebrating his girlfriend’s success.

Alia Bhatt plays her part well, she is convincing as Vaidehi a go-getter who doesn’t mind breaking rules of the society. She will speak her mind and is feisty and super ambitious as she is soft hearted and guilty of hurting Badri. Badri’s friend Somdev is one of the best characters in the movie and so are his brother Alok Bhansal (Yash Sinha) and sister-in-law Urmila Shukla (Shweta Basu Prasad).

The film has a good blend of comedy and drama. Despite a comic touch to his role, Varun manages to make you feel for his character. This is a movie where Dhawan Jr is the most endearing. And yes, the Tamma Tamma song is placed at the perfect point, just before the filmmaker is about to lose out interest that is.

#What’s not

The second half falters and the efforts to incorporate Singapore tourism is too on your face. While we see Badri and Vaidehi’s relationship build, the build-up itself is a little boring. One particular scene that is supposed to deal with a grave issue of sexual attack on Badri is made into a not so tasteful joke. Again the film is too predictable and in fact right before the interval the twist too becomes a little too predictable. The movie could have been edited better. The climax is almost like the makers were in a hurry to sum up their film. It’s shoddy and a very strong message gets lost.

#What to do

Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan prove that their pair means a bona fide success. Shashank Khaitan gives you a movie that you can relax with family and friends on an extended Holi weekend. Go watch it especially for Varun Dhawan!

Alia Bhatt Responds To The Death Threats She Received

Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt

A couple of days ago, Alia Bhatt and her family received anonymous death threats. A man had made repeated phone calls to Mahesh Bhatt, asking him for a ransom. Bhatt lodged in FIR asap and the police were quick to nab the culprit – Sandeep Sahu from UP. He told the police he did this so he could repay his loan. This obviously is a scary situation for anyone and Alia spoke up on the matter with India Today.

I think the police and my dad are brave they did not give me a chance to get worried. They just took over. The matter is sorted and solved and everybody is safe and happy. As a parent, my father has made me feel safe. With him, by my side, I had nothing to worry about.”

Brave girl! We’re glad she’s okay and her family’s safe.
