Raabta box office collection day 4: Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon’s films sees a huge dip on the first Monday, earns Rs 18.46 crore

Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon‘s Raabta was one of the most exciting films of the year, however it did not live up to anyone’s expectations. After a disappointing first weekend, the movie added another Rs 2.53 crore on day four to take its overall tally to Rs 18.46 crore. From an average collection of Rs 5.21 crore on day 3, Raabta has seen a huge dip on the first Monday and hence, it has failed to pass the crucial Monday litmus test. The makers shared with us the detailed breakdown of the movie’s collection, which read as, “Friday – Rs 5.61 crore, Saturday – Rs 5.11 crore, Sunday – Rs 5.21 crore, Monday – Rs 2.53 crore. Total – Rs 18.46 crore.”

Though the collection is not so bad, we expected Raabta to perform better. With more than 1800 screens at its disposal and a considerable buzz before the release, the film could have earned anywhere between Rs 25-30 crore in four days. In fact, even the fantastic performances by Sushant and Kriti could not save the movie. The poor screenplay, the done and dusted genre and the faltering story line lead to film’s downfall. The critics weren’t kind on the movie too.

Our critic – Tushar P Joshi mentioned in his review, “Sushant and Kriti’ s terrific chemistry deserved so much better. I hope filmmakers take notice and cast these two in a film that exploits their full potential. Raabta is an opportunity wasted.” Popular film critic, Rajeev Masand also suggested in his review, “Sushant and Kriti have good chemistry together and some of their early scenes are fun. But they’re not playing particularly likeable characters so it’s hard to care for what happens to these people beyond a point. It’s a shame because Sushant has proved himself to be a really competent actor. Although, to be honest, even Denzel Washington couldn’t save this film. This is the kind of movie that film critics must endure so you don’t have to.”

Looking at the current trends and the poor word of mouth publicity, we expect the movie to make around Rs 20-30 crore at the box office in its lifetime run. Till then, stay tuned to BollywoodLife as we get you all the latest box office updates about Raabta right here…

Baywatch: Amazing or awful?

baywatch-dwayne-johnson-priyanka-chopra It’s strange to go to the cinema and come out feeling like you’ve seen an utterly brilliant film and a truly awful film at the same time – but the new Baywatch really does tick both boxes.

There’s no getting away from it – the big-screen adaptation of the 1990s TV series is simply two hours of pure entertainment.

The action sequences are huge, the soundtrack is awesome, and the people are ludicrously good looking.

But it’s also just totally ridiculous, which may not surprise those who have seen the trailer. Or read the somewhat less-than-kind reviews.

Dwayne Johnson – the highest paid (and most annoyingly likeable) movie star in the world – takes the lead in the reboot as Mitch alongside Zac Efron, who plays Brody.

Kelly Rohrbach, Alexandra Daddario and Priyanka Chopra also star, and there are, most importantly, cameo appearances from David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson.

But this incarnation of Baywatch is much more knowing and tongue-in-cheek than it was in Hasselhoff and Anderson’s day.

The film itself is long – presumably to allow for the slow-motion button to be used to its full potential when any character is running down the shoreline.

Those who lived through the TV show will remember the appeal of such bouncy scenes, which were a key part of helping the series become a worldwide phenomenon.

And a phenomenon it was. Baywatch became the most-watched television show in the world at the time and represented a huge cultural shift.

Anderson was the embodiment of a look which rose to prominence in the 90s – skinny, blonde, and enhanced by plastic surgery.

But strangely, the show arguably also had a moral compass, which may help explain why it got its early evening slot on TV.

The lifeguards were portrayed as something of a family, working as a cohesive team and looking out for each other while saving lives.

A lot of the storylines felt wholesome and saw characters doing the “right thing” – an odd juxtaposition with the highly sexualised elements of the series.

Mitch’s relationship with his son is a good example – Hasselhoff’s character is seen as a model single father to Hobie, doing his best to raise him with good morals and life skills despite the absence of the boy’s mother.

But in many other ways, Baywatch is rather problematic.

It goes without saying that, in real life, very few of us indeed look as good as the Baywatch lifeguards as they dash down the beach in their orange swimsuits.

The male characters played by Johnson and Efron are muscular to a borderline unhealthy degree, while the women are tanned, big-chested and and impossibly skinny.

Nearly 30 years on from the show’s TV premiere, you’d like to think we’ve come further than still accepting these as beauty ideals.

Stars such as Lena Dunham and Sarah Hyland have started to hit back at “body shaming” in recent years – a term which barely existed when the TV show aired.

Social media has helped drive a movement of being proud of who you are and how you look, and there’s now a bigger fightback against the concept of the “perfect” body than there ever was in the 90s.

But you get the impression that everyone involved in the project totally gets and even embraces how unrealistic some elements of Baywatch are.

And at least the film knows how to make fun of itself.

Mitch mocks Brody’s boyband-level good looks throughout the film, referring to him invariably as “One Direction”, “Bieber”, and “High School Musical” instead of by his actual name.

And at one point, Brody tells Mitch that the concept of lifeguards investigating crimes “sounds like an entertaining but far-fetched TV show”.

But does such a show still have a place in 2017? Realistically, it probably shouldn’t.

We arguably should be over beautiful people running along a shoreline making immature jokes and getting involved in such obviously contrived storylines.

Since the TV series, life has happened. The internet has happened. Our tastes should have become more refined as the amount of choice available to consumers has exploded.

But Baywatch remains stupidly entertaining, one of those junk food films which is perfectly enjoyable provided you aren’t going in expecting to see the next best picture winner.

You might feel guilty watching it, but the 2017 incarnation of Baywatch is, quite simply, unfiltered escapism – and there are far worse things in the world than that.

Abhishek Bachchan & Hrithik Roshan To Star In The Ram Lakhan Remake?

You already know that Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty are joining hands to recreate the iconic Ram Lakhan. And ever since the movie was announced, there’s been a lot of speculation over who would play the two male leads – several names have done the rounds, but perhaps the most popular ones have been Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor (who wouldn’t want to see that real-life bromance translate on-screen again?). However, now, there are two new names doing the rounds!

According to Filmfare, a source has told them that Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan are likely to be roped in for the film – Hrithik, it seems, will play Lakhan; while Abhishek will play Ram. There’s no confirmation yet on whether this is true, so we’ll have to wait to hear more news, but this is undoubtedly one of Bollywood’s most exciting projects as of late – and it’ll be interesting to see Hrithik and Abhishek work together again, especially in a film like this!

Do you think Abhishek and Hrithik would be the perfect Ram and Lakhan?

Zarine Khan Opens Up About Sussanne Khan’s Marriage Rumours!

Yesterday, a lot of news portals and websites carried the news regarding Sussanne Khan‘s decision to marry again. The rumour was that Sussanne was ready to tie the knot with someone who was described as Hrithik Roshan‘s ‘best friend’. Her mother, Zarine Khan has jumped to her daughter’s defense and spoken to Pinkvilla about this piece of gossip.

“There is not an iota of truth in this news, my daughter is not getting married. There is no man in her life. We don’t know, who, time and again keeps spreading these rumours. We are in a very sad state wherein we can’t say yes or no. It is a sad place to be in this film industry. When we try to say something, something more gets splashed all over. Now we just want to keep quiet. Sussanne is working very hard. She is happy with her life. She is bringing up her two kids single-handedly. “

Zarine has, in the past, spoken about how Hrithik will always remain a son for her. There have been reports of Sussanne seeing Arjun Rampal, but both parties have vehemently denied the existence of any such relationship. So I guess, Sussanne ain’t getting married anytime soon!

Questions pertaining to uncle Aamir Khan irk Imran

Any questions about his star-uncle Aamir Khan irritate Imran Khan to no end. And when anyone starts with, “Aapke maamujaan …” Imran feels like giving the person one tight slap. Imran may have said this in jest during an event in the capital for his film, Katti Batti, but this does provide for some food for thought.

Wonder what the mamujaan thinks of his bhanjaa’s aversion to topics related to him.

Salman Khan denies Madhuri Dixit was paid more for ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!’

Salman Khan says he wasn’t paid lesser than his 1994 blockbuster ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!’ co-star Madhuri Dixit, as suggested by veteran actor Anupam Kher.

Anupam was running a gender equality initiative on Twitter when a woman mentioned about the pay disparity in Bollywood, to which the ‘Baby’ actor replied: “I agree in certain cases it is true. But Madhuri was paid more than Salman in HAHK (‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!’)” Asked about Anupam’s statement at a press interaction here, Salman initially claimed that he wasn’t aware of it, but later replied: “I don’t think it is true.” Salman was present at a dance reality show with actors Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty to promote their upcoming film, ‘Hero’. Regarding disparity in remuneration, Salman said “It’s all about what people want to see.” “The busier you get, the more people want to see you, that’s how your price increases. So if you can pull off a solo hero or solo heroine film on your own and the producers, exhibitors and distributors make that money then the producer doesn’t have any problem sharing that money with you. So you can’t demand, you need to command that,” he added.

Singing is not my love: Salman Khan

Though his songs have become an instant hit, superstar Salman Khan says he does not take singing seriously and does it for fun. The 49-year-old actor, who previously lent his voice to “Hangover” (Kick) and “Chandi ki daal par” (Hello Brother), recently crooned the title track of his upcoming production “Hero”. “Singing is not my next love after painting. I am just doing it for fun. I can’t sing to save my life, if you ask me to sing the same song right now I would not be able to do it. “Even if I try to sing it on TV it will not sound the same. However, if I am in a studio and they (the music composers) sing every line in front of me, I can mimic that and sing it,” Salman said during the promotion of the film here.

Asked whom he was thinking about while recording the romantic track, Salman teased, “What’s her name… I know you know her name… I just concentrated on her and that’s it. So, that feeling automatically came.”
However, he later killed the excitement by saying it was, “sur”.

“You concentrate on your ‘sur’… That is the name. If the ‘sur’ is ok then the technicians take care of it. If you get the feel right of the ‘sur’ the song turns out to be pretty ok.”

The “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” star said he tried his hands in the recording studio as he wishes to hear his own voice in the playback. “In films, we have playback singers. People know it is Sonu Nigam or Kumar Sanu, I just wanted to have my own voice there and that’s the reason why I decided to sing.”

“Hero”, starring newcomers Athiya Shetty and Sooraj Pancholi, will hit theatres on September 11.

Demand for good quality pirated copies of the film skyrocket in Pakistan

Director Kabir Khan, producer Sajid Nadiadwala, Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif sure have a reason to celebrate. Their latest outing Phantom has created a lot of buzz in India as well as abroad. After raking in about Rs 50 crore at the Indian box office, the film is garnering a lot of response in Pakistan as well.

There seems to be a big demand for the pirated copies of the film in Pakistan because people there are curious about the subject.

An insider industry source told a leading tabloid that there is an increasing demand for the film in Pakistan and “there is a lot of pressure to procure good quality print.” According to the source, there is a lot of curiosity with regard to the content and treatment given to the film.

Word of mouth publicity is working in the favour of the movie. Audience in Pakistan is deeply influenced by their Indian counterparts. Having said all this, this phenomenon does not help the makers of the film. Nadiadwala told the tabloid that piracy is bad for their business and therefore, they cannot cash in on Phantom’s popularity in Pakistan. But, the makers of this film are also somewhere happy that the Pakistanis are watching their movie despite all the restrictions.

“It is a compliment that people of Pakistan want to watch it and the fact that the demand has gone up after the movie’s performance in Indian market,” added Nadiadwala.
