This is why Shahid Kapoor warned brother Ishaan about dating Jhanvi Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor has always been protective towards his brother Ishaan Khattar, and probably that’s the reason he has been taking a keen interest in Ishaan’s career in Bollywood.

Shahid doesn’t want Ishaan to lose focus from his career and that’s why he felt the need of a heart to heart talk with Ishaan.
As per a report in Mid-Day, Shahid told Ishaan to keep his love life away from the media glare as it may create a certain kind of public image for him. Ishaan and Jhanvi, Sridevi and Boney Kapoor’s daughter, have often been seen at some events together with the latest being the screening of Baywatch in Mumbai.

Jhanvi Kapoor

Ishaan and Jhanvi both are likely to make their Bollywood debuts soon. While Jhanvi’s film hasn’t been announced yet, Ishaan is working with master Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi’s Beyond The Clouds.

5 Things We Loved About Rangoon

Rangoon

Rangoon

Vishal Bharadwaj’s Rangoon is intrinsically a film about romance in the time of war and is set in pre-independent India in 1943 amidst the on-going World War II. The film touches upon the two on-going movements back then – one of Ahimsa by Mahatma Gandhi, and the other of Subhash Chandra Bose – a more violent attempt to get India independence along with the Indian National Army.

Amidst this, we have three main characters – the stoic Nawab Malik (Shahid Kapoor), an Indian soldier who has just spent eight months as a prisoner in Japanese custody. He somehow escapes this, establishing himself as the brave, unabashed soldier who will do anything for his country. Then there’s the ridiculously good looking Russi Billimoria (Saif Ali Khan), a well established studio owner who used to once be an action superstar until he loses his hand in a stunt accident. Lastly, there’s Julia (Kangana Ranaut), a leading action heroine, Rusi’s muse and Nawab’s lover. She’s physically strong yet emotionally vulnerable as she discovers herself through the forests of Arunachal Pradesh.

I watched the film yesterday and here are five things we loved about the film.

Shahid & Kangana’s Chemistry

Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut

Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut

Absolutely electrifying. These two were terrific and brought so much intensity and passion to the screen, it’s almost hard to believe there are rumours doing the rounds that the two don’t get along. This pairing, honestly, might just be my favourite one. I was rooting for them right from the very beginning. PS – I must add that this was one of Shahid’s best performances so far. A full 10/10 for his acting chops.

Saif Ali Khan’s Fabulous Performance

Saif Ali Khan, Kangna Ranaut

Saif Ali Khan, Kangana Ranaut

This film has made me realise that Saif Ali Khan is one of those actors who has been drastically under-appreciated. Saif as the jealous and controlling fiancé is absolutely amazing and proves what a fine actor he is.

Music

Good, soulful music is always synonymous with a Vishal Bharadwaj film. Ye Ishq Hai is undoubtedly the highlight of the film.

Supporting Cast

As great as the leading trio was, the supporting cast were the ones who held the film together. Satoru Kawaguchi as the Japanese soldier was incredible. His comic timing was on-point and he makes you feel a range of emotions. You want to be angry with him but can’t help rooting for him either. His scenes with Shahid and Kangana stand out in the film, and that says quite something about his potential. Saharsh Shukla also doesn’t go unnoticed as Julia’s spot boy.

Julia Is A Total Badass

Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut’s character is the heart of Rangoon. She’s ruthless, fights the bad guys with her whip, jumps from one train to the other. She’s tough yet beautifully vulnerable and brings to the fore all the shades of being a woman. What was interesting is that Julia is the one actress who could bring commercial success to the film and her studio, bearing a striking resemblance to what Kangana is like in real life. She’s one of the few female actresses who can carry off a film just as well as a male actor, and this without a doubt is Kangana’s film all the way.

PS – I want to add again that Shahid Kapoor was AMAZING in the film!

If you’ve been a fan of Vishal Bharadwaj’s films, Rangoon is a must watch. Head to the theatre and let us know what you thought of the film. :)

Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan’s film receives a MIXED response from critics

Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor

Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor

Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan’s much awaited film Rangoon has finally released! What has caused more hype to the film apart from the stellar cast is the man donning the director’s hat, Vishal Bharadwaj. The story revolves around individuals and how the dynamics of love change their lives. Evidently, it is a love triangle between the stars in the film set during the time of World War 2. The movie delivers war, love, deceit in forms that only Bharadwaj can compile together! So with the film finally releasing, critics have given it a mixed response. From good to mediocre to bad ratings have been given to the film. Although it’s mostly the storytelling that has miffed the critics, who expected a lot more, performance wise, they’ve all done well. Reviewers can’t stop raving about the brilliance of Kangana, who quite possibly owns the show but not without the astounding performance of Shahid and Saif! Check out the reviews of critics of the industry.

BollywoodLife: 4 stars

The three protagonists – Kangana, Shahid and Saif deliver their best performances even in a plot that sometimes curbs them. Julia is a brave heroine, she fearless and not shameful of admitting that she’s a bastard.

India.com: 3.5 stars

With so much exposure to Hollywood movies for our audience, it’s not easy to do justice to the setting. But Vishal Bhardwaj and his team deserve a pat on their backs for recreating the foregone era. Be it the production design, the beautiful locales used and and the props, the technical values are simply brilliant. Pankaj Kumar’s camera work effortlessly captures the hues of the forest, the pristine green waters of the river as well as the dark grey clouds that are a metaphor for the looming doom for some of the characters.

India Today: 2 stars

At two hours and forty seven minutes, Rangoon doesn’t satisfy either as a period love story or a rousing drama about India’s fight for independence. Working on a big canvas, Bhardwaj has enough grandeur and glamour (the sets and costumes are striking) but is short on an engaging narrative. The overblown and protracted climax, with a touch of Tarantino thrown in, makes one giggle.

Hindustan Times: 2 stars

It may be one of the most awaited films in recent times but Rangoon is a royal misfire.Within minutes of the movie’s beginning, you realise the promise of a heart-wrenching period drama was a farce — a set-up to promote a self-indulgent film that doesn’t know what it wants to be. The director Vishal Bhardwaj has desperately tried to play to the gallery, and has miserably failed.

Scroll.in

The movie’s strongest scenes are set in the Army camp where Russi and Nawab duel, literally and figuratively, for Julia’s soul. Since Rangoon equates love for another human being with love for the country, this romance, like the movie itself, is all over the place.

Firstpost: 2.5 stars

On the face of it, this is a setting bubbling with possibilities, and considerable swathes of Rangoon (especially in its second half) do mine that potential. Ranaut delivers a seemingly effortless, chameleon-like performance as a woman who is by turns fragile and fierce, hurting yet invulnerable, a child who grows into a woman during the course of the film. The actress and the character she plays here, possess a body that is as intriguing as her mind: she appears delicate, yet explodes with energy and athleticism when life demands it of her.

With such mixed reviews, what would you do this weekend? Will you go watch Rangoon or will you skip it? Tell us in the comments section below and stay tuned to this space for hot scoop.

Rumours have been rife that Rangoon co-stars Shahid Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut didn’t get along during the shooting of the film and even in the promotional rounds for the film, it was said that there were constant cold vibes between the duo. When Kangana didn’t attend Shahid’s pre-birthday party hosted by Mira Kapoor, reports started doing the rounds that it was Kangana sending a message of some sort.

However, according to a report in DNA though, Kangana actually did something quite sweet. Apparently, Kangana wrote a letter to Mira thanking her for the invite and explaining to her that she won’t be able to attend the do as she’s tied up with prior work commitments in Delhi.

All’s good in the hood, it seems!

Is Shahid Kapoor Not Promoting Rangoon With Kangana Ranaut? – He Speaks Up!

Shahid Kapoor & Kangana Ranaut

Shahid Kapoor & Kangana Ranaut

Rumours have been doing the rounds that Shahid Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut did not get along well on the sets of Rangoon. In fact, reportedly a cold war between the two still exists as apparently Kangana believed that she was the biggest star on the sets and behaved badly. At the xXx party, Shahid was asked about his current equation with Kangana.

Rubbishing all rumours, he said:

There is absolutely no problem between Kangana and me. I recently read somewhere that we might not promote the film together. I’ll be happy to promote the film wherever whenever – with Kangana and also with Saif who is also a very important part of the film. Rangoon is out on the 23rd of February. It’s my third film with Vishal Bharadwaj. A large part of who I am as an actor is defined by him, so these films are always special.”

There you have it :)

A Lot Of People Are Shocked That Udta Punjab Is ‘Inspired’ By High Society, A British Novel

Udta Punjab

Udta Punjab

Times Of India and Scroll. in recently did a piece on the unmissable similarities between Udta Punjab and the 2002 novel High Society by Ben Elton and that has created ripples all over the Internet. Udta Punjab is one of the most significant movies of 2016, that’s why people are surprised at how ‘inspired’ the movie actually is. Here are some of the main story-lines from the book and the film which are rather similar –

1) Tommy Singh – Tommy Hanson

Shahid Kapoor in Udta Punjab

Shahid Kapoor in Udta Punjab

In the book, Tommy Hanson is a very successful rocker who is a drug addict. He attained stardom after winning a competition called Pop Hero. In the movie we have Shahid Kapoor who plays Tommy Singh, a rockstar who became a big name after winning an underground competition in London and has a history of substance abuse.

2) Mary Jane – Jessie

Alia Bhatt in Udta Punjab

Alia Bhatt in Udta Punjab

Jessie is a 17 year old girl who has run away to London from her home in Scotland. She is coerced into prostitution by a pimp who gets her addicted to drugs. The story follows her attempts to escape her pimp and her battle against drug addiction. Mary Jane, played by Alia Bhatt goes through the same ordeal after she runs away from her home in Bihar and comes to Punjab.

3) Commander Barry Leman – Sartaj Singh

Diljit Dosanjh in Udta Punjab

Diljit Dosanjh in Udta Punjab

arry is a high ranking police officer who becomes obsessed with exposing a politically funded drug racket after a friend of his daughter’s is horrifically sexually assaulted. Diljit Dosanjh‘sSartaj Singh is shown to be nonchalant over the rampant drug abuse in Punjab. He becomes obsessed with tracking this menace down only after he realizes his brother is an addict.

Scroll.in has broken down even more similarities between the film and the book (including the scene where Shahid and Alia meet).

highsociety

When the movie’s screenwriter Sudip Sharma was asked for a comment by the website, he denied that High Society had any part to play in the creation of Udta Punjab. Here’s what he said –

“Not really. The one big inspiration for me was Traffic (a 2000 movie based on the illegal drug trade between Mexico and the United States). I had read the book (High Society) a long time back. I don’t remember most of it.”

When contacted by The Hindu, here’s what the film’s producer Anurag Kashyap said –

“I know for a fact that my director and writer went and spent a lot of time in Punjab researching the film, and have seen the research. If they were in any way inspired by the book, which only they know, they have done a damn good job in the writing of the script. Because the film that I read and I saw, seemed very very rooted in the land.”

The Internet was disappointed –

And The Name Of Mira & Shahid Kapoor’s Daughter Is…

Shahid Kapoor, Mira Rajput

Shahid Kapoor, Mira Rajput

Not too long ago, Mira Kapoor gave birth to a baby girl, making her and Shahid proud parents. The name of their daughter wasn’t announced then; however, according to a Filmfare exclusive, the two have now decided upon a name for their little girl. And, yes, it looks like it really is a mixture of both of their names. The young girl has apparently been named Misha!

Shahid and Mira haven’t made any official announcement yet, though, so we’ll have to wait for that!

Shahid Kapoor Reveals The ONE Condition Mira Kapoor Had To Marry Him

shmr18

Shahid Kapoor and Mira Kapoor make a gorgeous couple. As we know now that Shahid was in his Udta Punjab look when he met Mira and her family for the first time. In a recent interview to Bombay Times, Shahid cutely revealed the one condition Mira laid in front of him before agreeing to marry him.

Here’s what he said:

The only condition she laid down for me was that when we get married, I will not have coloured hair. She made me promise that when we marry I would sport my normal hair colour. She warned me not wear my hair red on our marriage day. When I married her a month later, I made sure I behaved myself and looked like a decent groom.

Aww!
